An occupational therapist threw herself out of her
An occupational therapist threw herself out of her godmother’s window after begging for a place to stay the night, an inquest heard.
Danuta Abrat, 40, died of multiple injuries from the fall from a first floor balcony on the morning of September 19 this year.
Her godmother, Janina Jagodzinska, was on the phone to her father at the time in concern at her behaviour during the night.
She said Danuta arrived at her home in Finborough Road, West Brompton, southwest London asking for a place to stay.
Ms Jagodzinska told Westminster Coroner’s Court: ‘She promised she would go back home the following morning.
‘At 4am I woke up and saw the door to her room was open and the window in the room was wide open.
‘She was awake and I felt she was up to something, that she had made her mind up about something.
‘I phoned her father who told me there was nothing unusual in her behaviour.
‘I talked for a few minutes and then I noticed she had gone.
‘I went into the room, the window was open, and I saw her lying on the ground.
I was terrified, I didn’t know what to do.
‘
A post mortem revealed Ms Abrat died of multiple injuries.
She was single and gained a degree in Geography at the London School of Economics before training as an occupational therapist.
Ms Abrat worked at St Mary’s Hospital but began to suffer depression during the last four years, the hearing was told.
Sister Theresa Abrat said Danuta had attempted suicide before by taking an overdose of tablets.
Coroner Dr Paul Knapman recorded a verdict of suicide.
