A Filipino cleaner who launched a terrifying sex attack on a 19-year-old student in a dingy subway was jailed for five years today.

(Thurs)

Wilson Gines, 20, pinned the teenager up against a pillar, pulling down her flared jeans before molesting her.

Gines then kissed his victim and forced her to perform a sex attack on him.

He then attemped to rape her before fleeing from the tunnel beneath a shopping complex.

She was left ‘absolutely hysterical’ after her ordeal, Inner London Crown Court heard.

But the whole ordeal was caught on the CCTV camera in a tunnel at Elephant and Castle, southeast London.

The jury unanimously convicted Gines of attempted rape and indecent assault.

Gines had followed the student as she was walked towards the Northern Line tube station on January 17 this year.

Simon Ward, prosecuting, said: ‘He pulled her off towards a pillar and began to kiss her against her will.

‘Then he undid her top and trousers and continued to kiss her.

‘

Mr Ward said the pervert touched the 19-year-old intimately and made her perform a sex act upon him before trying to rape her.

He then fled back along the passageway.

The distraught student was discovered by a rough sleeper in the tunnel.

‘She was absolutely hysterical,’ Mr Ward said.

Security staff at the shopping centre were put on alert and a sharp-eyed guard spotted Gines at the market by the entrance to the Tube station.

When the guard grabbed Gines’ wrist he immediately said: ‘I haven’t done anything.

I never raped the woman.

‘

He admitted kissing the woman and touching her intimately but claimed she consented to what went on.

Gines, of (22) Fleming House, George Row, Rotherhithe, was convicted of attempted rape and indecent assault.

He was cleared of a charge of rape due to lack of evidence.

Gines had denied each of the charges.

Judge Nicholas Philpot told the Filipino man – said to be mildly retarded and suffering a psychotic illness – that although no violence was used the woman was left in a ‘terrible state’.

It was an experience that had ‘made enormous inroads into the balance of her life,’ added the judge.

And he said in an impact statement she referred to a ‘contstant daily struggle’ as a result of the attack.

‘I take into account your own particular difficulties.

‘But only a custodial sentence can be justified for such behaviour,’ the judge said jailing Gines for five years.
