BROWN: COURT GUARD JAILED FOR SMUGGLING DRUGS IN BRA
A crooked court guard who smuggled drugs for prisoners in her bra was jailed for 27 months today (Fri).
Busty Samantha Brown, 21, fooled colleagues at Inner London Crown Court by stuffing cannabis down her cleavage.
She slipped the contraband to defendants as they came to court for hearings after receiving instructions by from prisoner pal Leon Jackson, 35 and was paid £200 for each delivery.
Brown appeared in the dock for sentencing this afternoon at Southwark Crown Court, less than a mile from her former place of work.
Judge Anthony Leonard, QC, told Brown: ‘You held a position of great trust, having responsibility not only for the welfare of the prisoners but also for ensuring there was no opportunity for illicit items to be passed to them.
‘You have ignored your responsibility, and went further than that by taking an active role in passing cannabis to prisoners.
‘You knew better than most people of the size of the drug problem and the problem that it can be in prison, not only for the end users of the drugs but also for the power it gives to suppliers in prison.’
The judge said he passed sentence on the basis that Brown had brought drugs into the court on four different occasions.
Paul Wakerley, prosecuting, told the court that Brown and Jackson befriended each other while he was on trial for inflicting grievous bodily harm at Inner London in June last year, an offence for which he was eventually jailed for four years.
The relationship was discovered six months later after a mobile phone was seized from Jackson’s cell in HMP Brixton.
The telephone was analysed and investigators realised that over that period, he and Brown had exchanged 369 different calls and a similar number of text messages.
Brown was arrested as she came into work on December 23, and immediately admitted that she had been in contact with prisoners.
In interview, she admitted bringing drugs into Inner London, saying that Jackson had offered her ‘two bills’ or £200 each time to pass them to contacts.
She said: ‘When I leave my house, I put in my bra, because I know we don’t get searched,’ she said.
Brown, of (7) Collent Street, Homerton, East London, admitted conspiring to smuggle prohibited articles into prison and misconduct in a public office.
Jackson, whose address was given in court as HMP Brixton, admitted unauthorised transmission of an image or sound from within a prison and was jailed for an extra five months.
