OUGHTON:INMATE DENIES SMUGGLING CANNABIS INTO JAIL
A prisoner accused of smuggling drugs into jail has been ordered to stand trial in December.
Paul Oughton, 47, was allegedly caught with 22.9g (0.8oz) of cannabis stuffed in his underpants while standing trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court last year.
It is claimed fellow inmate Steven Gordon, 32, smuggled a mobile phone into HMP Pentonville in north London and sent messages.
Both men were ordered to stand trial at Southwark Crown Court on December 19.
Prosecutor Lucy Kennedy said: ‘Paul Oughton, we say, is responsible for conveying drugs into the prison.
‘Steven Gordon, we say, is responsible for conveying a mobile telephone and SIM card and transmitting electronic communications.’
Oughton, formerly of (19) Stansgate Road, Dagenham, Essex, pleaded not guilty to conveying cannabis on to a prison estate.
Gordon, of no fixed address, denied making the unauthorised transmission of an image or sound by electronic communication from a prison estate and conveying a mobile phone and SIM card onto a prison estate.
