KOVECHEV:PEEPING TOM WHO TOOK UPSKIRT VIDEOS IN FASHION STORE WALKS FREE

A Peeping Tom who took up-skirt videos of young women in a high street fashion store walked free from court today (Tues).

Borislav Kovechev, 30, told police he wanted pictures of ‘something nice’ after he was caught in the act at New Look in Oxford Street, central London.

Security guards had confiscated his camera phone after he was seen acting suspiciously in the shop on July 1.

They looked through his video footage and found secretly-recorded images of women’s cleavages and knickers, City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard.

The self-employed IT engineer admitted outraging public decency and was handed a 36-month community order.

He was also told to pay £85 towards court costs and banned from all shops in the Oxford Street area.

A further charge of voyeurism was dropped.

Izolda Gribbin, prosecuting, said: ‘He was observed staring at young females in the shop and approaching them with his camera in his hand.

‘It was clear he was filming at the time and he was actually apprehended and the footage was viewed.

‘There was footage of females in the shop and their cleavage and under their skirts.’

Kovechev, of (51) Overton Road, Leyton, east London, admitted the offence in a police interview.

‘He said it was a spontaneous act – he followed two young females into New Look and did it to record “something nice” as he put it,’ said Ms Gribbin.

Poppy Mosserson, defending, said Kovechev had been in the area for work when he succumbed to the ‘out of character’ urge.

She said: ‘He was extremely remorseful at the scene and very much regrets his actions, which were completely out of character for someone with a stable job and a stable relationship.

‘Fortunately the victims in this case were not even aware of the images being recorded so no further distress was caused to them.’
