Father-of-five accused of assaulting wife admits having fake passport
A father-of-five was caught with a fake Pakistani passport after he beat up his wife and accused her of having sex with other men, a court heard.
Sheraz Hashmi, 39, confronted partner Sharkra Sheraz while she was in the shower at their home in Bayswater, it is claimed.
He allegedly pushed her ‘very hard’ after telling her: ‘I know where you have been, you have been having sex with other men, I want my money back.’
Police were called to the scene on 18 July and found the bogus passport after arresting him, Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard.
Prosecutor Trevor Green said: ‘On the 18th July, he assaulted Sharkra Sheraz by beating her and was found with a fake Pakistani passport in his possession.
‘The defendant and complainant have been married since 2006 with five children between the ages of one and eleven.
‘She went to have a shower, when Mr Hashmi started to bang on the bathroom door, yelling abuse.
‘He started shouting in Urdu: ‘I know where you have been, you have been having sex with other men, I want my money back,’ or words to that affect.
‘Mr Hashmi then proceeded into their bedroom where he began banging doors and yelling he wanted his passport.
‘He shouted: “Leave and take the children back to Pakistan”.
‘A close friend of Sharkra’s was in the home at the time, and she called the police. When they arrived, and arrested him they found his false passport.’
Hashmi appeared in the dock shaking his head with his eyes on the floor, when the court heard Ms Sheraz’ victim statement.
She said: ‘I went to shut the door and he pushed through with both hands and he pushed me very hard.
‘He started shouting about money and he said: ‘I would spare you and I would spare your mother.’
Hashmi had been remanded in custody since his arrest and was sentenced to 100 hours of unpaid community work after pleading guilty to possessing the false passport.
Magistrate Graham Barnes released him on conditional bail, provided he has no contact with Miss Sheraz, does not enter Norfolk Crescent and resides at a new address in south west London.
Hashmi, of (19) Norfolk Cresent, London admitted to possessing a fake passport but denies assault by beating.
His trial will be held at Hendon Magistrates’ Crown Court on 31 August.
