Another Grenfell fraudster faces jail

A fraudster who pretended to be a victim of the Grenfell tower fire to claim more than £80,000 is facing jail.

Yonatan Eyob, 26, said he lived in a flat in the west London tower block which was home to a family of five who died in the blaze.

Prosecutor Marcia Evans told the court other family members and neighbours “say the defendant did not live in the flat”.

Eyob received £81,000 in accommodation and subsistence allowances from the London borough of Kensington and Chelsea, the court heard.

He pleaded guilty to the charge of fraud by false representation today (MON) at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

Chair Magistrate Emir Faisal sent the case to the crown court for sentencing.

A total of 72 people died as a result of the Grenfell Tower fire on 14 June 2013.

Eyob, of Hurstway Walk, North Kensington, will be sentence at Isleworth Crown Court on 24th August.
