‘Murdered on Christmas Eve’
An alleged killer charged with murdering a resident in a multi-occupancy house has been remanded.
Gordon Ogunmuyiwa, 62, was found dead at the property in Dunheved Road West, Thornton Heath, on Christmas Eve last year.
Paul Campbell, 43, also of Dunheved Road West, appeared at the Old Bailey today via
videolink from HMP Thameside charged with murdering Mr Ogunmuyiwa.
Prosecutor Peter Ratliff said: ‘The defendant lives in a multi-occupancy house in West Croydon.
‘On the morning on the 24 December he left his room, told a member of staff someone had died in his room and then fled from the address.
‘No visible injuries were found on the deceased’s body and it was thought they may have died from pre-existing conditions.
‘But subsequent information suggested this defendant had been extorting money from the deceased and the post-mortem revealed significant internal injuries.
‘A homicide investigation began on 11 January and the defendant located and arrested the same day.’
Judge Mark Lucraft, the Recorder of London, remanded Campbell in custody ahead of a plea and trial preparation hearing on 6 April.
