Gang rivalry behind Islington street murder
A 23-year-old man was stabbed to death while armed with a baseball bat, a court heard.
Ibrahim Elkadmiri, 30, is accused of stabbing Yahye Ahmed in Axminster Road, Islington, last week.
Police were called to the road at 11.39am on 30 August and despite the efforts of emergency services Mr Ahmed was pronounced dead at the scene.
Elkadmiri appeared at the Old Bailey today (thurs) via video link from HMP Belmarsh wearing a grey prison tracksuit charged with murder and possession of an offensive weapon.
Ahmed Abdi Ahmed, 33, of Islington, is charged with assisting an offender and was not in court today.
Prosecutor Kate Blumgart said: ‘It isn’t known exactly what caused or is behind this offence, but there obviously was a connection between the victim in this case and his group and this defendant.’
Judge Alexia Durran said there had been a physical altercation between Elkadmiri and Mr Ahmed, with Elkadmiri armed with a knife and Mr Ahmed wielding a baseball bat.
The judge remanded Elkadmiri in custody ahead of a plea and trial preparation hearing on 30 November.
A provisional three week trial date was set for 3 September.
