Cop known as ‘NX121’ to stand trial for murder of Chris Kaba
A Met Police officer will appear in court tomorrow (thurs) charged with murdering Chris Kaba, who was shot dead in south London last year.
Chris Kaba, 24, was gunned down after his Audi was stopped by specialist firearms officers in Streatham Hill on the evening of 5 September.
His vehicle was stopped following the activation of an automatic number plate recognition camera.
The officer, known only as NX121, will appear before Westminster Magistrates Court tomorrow (thurs) charged with murder.
The charging decision was made by the CPS following a referral from the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Helen Millichap said: ‘We have fully supported the IOPC investigation as it has worked to establish the facts.
‘Today’s announcement is a significant and serious development. We must now allow the court process to run its course so it would not be appropriate for me to say more at this stage.
‘Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this case.’
IOPC director Amanda Rowe said: ‘Today the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has announced that a Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) officer will appear in court tomorrow charged with the murder of Chris Kaba, following an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
‘The officer and Mr Kaba’s family were notified of the decision by the CPS this morning.
‘The officer, who we are unable to name for legal reasons at this time, will be appearing at the Westminster Magistrates’ Court tomorrow morning.
‘Our thoughts remain with Mr Kaba’s family and everyone affected by this tragic incident.’
