Race hate attacker punched Jewish mother pushing a pram
A Jewish mother pushing her baby in a pram was punched in the face during a series of ‘racially aggravated’ attacks in north London, a court heard.
Footage released by the Jewish neighbourhood watch group Shomrim shows the suspect running along Clapton Common and attacking a woman on Monday (19) afternoon.
Shomrim volunteers detained the man and he was arrested for assaults on three Jewish women in the area that day. The victims suffered minor injuries.
Abdisamad Siad, 33, denied three counts of assault by beating against Rochel Bard, Miriam Sudak and Shandi Greenbaum on 19 October when he appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court.
Prosecutor Shubhangi Mitra said: ‘Following a series of unprovoked assaults in the Clapton Common area the defendant was detained by members of Shomrim and shortly assisted by police.
She said Siad shouted ‘move out of the way’ and said he would punch Ms Bard.
‘He punched her, she suffered injuries and she provided a statement.’
Ms Sudak was allegedly attacked six minutes later, at 1.36pm.
‘She was pushing her baby daughter in a pram when the defendant doubled back and punched her in the face.’
Ms Greenbaum was stopped shortly afterwards and punched ‘three to four times.’
Ms Mitre said: ‘All three women were members of the Orthodox Jewish community and were visibly Jewish. These attacks were motivated by hostility and were racially aggravated.’
Magistrate Malachi Williams remanded Siad in custody to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court on 28 October.
Siad, of Pilgrims Way, Islington, showed no emotion as he sat in the dock wearing a grey sweatshirt.
