A crazed gunman sparked terror when he pointed two imitation handguns at police believing they were ‘working for Satan’, a court heard.
Samuel Blezard, 19, went on a rampage after deciding the 999 emergency number was a version of the devil’s number, 666.
The schizophrenic was seen staggering along Swain’s Lane, in Highgate, north London, waving the fake Glock guns around in each hand.
He later attacked two policemen as they arrived at a nearby pub to arrest him, the Old Bailey heard.
Andrew Jackson, prosecuting, told the court a van load of police officers were heading back to the station when Blezard approached their vehicle.
‘He had wide, staring eyes and was shouting ”F*** off, don’t follow me.
”
Several horrified witnesses made frantic calls to the police.
Mr Jackson said: ‘He retired to a public house and at this point two firearms officers saw him walking towards a group of people.
‘He walked towards them shouting and swearing.
‘He then approached two officers and punched them both in the face.
‘He was unintelligible and was shouting about Satan and that he’d get the Queen to deal with matters.
‘He was restrained and there was a short struggle.
The firearms were seized from his pockets.
‘
Blezard at first gave no comment after he was arrested.
But he later told police: ‘I thought people working for the emergency services were people who worked for the devil.
‘
Mr Jackson explained his client, who was on medication for mental problems, believed 999 to be the inverse of 666 and therefore a sign of Satan.
Blezard, of Poplar Grove, in Friern Barnet, north London, admitted two charges of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause violence and two charges of assaulting a police officer on November 25, last year.
The judge Mr Recorder Anthony Morris, QC, ordered him to be sent for treatment at a psychiatric unit under section 37 of the Mental Health Act.
