A nanny swiped more than pnds 8,000 from her boss
A nanny swiped more than pnds 8,000 from her
boss after her husband revealed he was packing in his job
as a stable hand at Buckingham Palace, Southwark Crown Court
heard today (Fri).
Heather Galloway was told by her husband that she
would have to fend for herself and her child when he left the Royal
yard, the court was told.
So while American housewife Margo Urey, 31, was out,
she sneaked into her employer’s bedroom and stole her Abbey
Link Building Society card and PIN number.
The young mum withdrew a total of pnds 8,630
between February 10 and May 5 last year.
The court heard that Galloway, mother of a young child, was
having problems with her marriage at the time.
Prosecutor Julian Manson said Galloway’s husband told his
wife that he was giving up his job in January 1991, which
would mean that he would lose his accommodation at Buckingham Palace.
He told her he did not care what was going to happen to
her or their child, the court was told.
It was after this that the nanny pinched the card
card and began using it.
She left the job at Philbeach Gardens, Earls Court, in
February last year but took the card with her and continued to
withdraw her employer’s cash.
Finally Mrs Urey noticed that the money was missing and
called in the police.
The court heard that Mrs Galloway, who is now a part
time sales assistant with Burton fashions, and her husband, a
courier, are now living together in Luton.
She has since repaid pnds 1,000 to her employers.
Judge Christopher Hardy told her: ‘This is a serious series of
offences.
You abused the trust placed in you.
‘A few years ago anyone committing these offences would
have gone to prison.
You are fortunate that these circumstances
have now changed.
‘
Galloway was put on probation for 18 months and ordered to pay
back all the money she had stolen.
