A young man was stabbed to death outside Turnmills

A young man was stabbed to death outside Turnmills nightclub
when an earlier bout of troubled continued into the street, a
court heard.

Gary Holden, 21, was knifed half-a-dozen times.

He managed
to stagger across Clerkenwell Road before collapsing ‘mortally
wounded,’ an Old Bailey jury were told.

Within minutes of the attack the man alleged to be responsi
ble was picked up by police in a nearby street.

Joseph Beveridge, 22, bleeding from a head injury, was walk
ing along with a young woman.

He said he had been ‘bottled’ at Turnmills.

The couple were questioned and a blood stained knife was
found on the woman.

‘She will say it was given to her shortly before by the
accused (Beveridge),’ said prosecutor Mr Robert Harman QC.

Forensic scientists who later examined the weapon discovered
there were traces of blood belonging to the same group as Mr
Holden.

Mr Harman told the jury: ‘The killing followed an earlier
incident inside the club in the course of which the deceased hit

the defendant over the head with a bottle.

‘It appears that after that incident there was an agreement
to have a settlement outside,’ continued counsel.

But before anyone got out of the basement club there was a
scuffle on the stairs when a queue formed by the cloakroom.

‘Afterwards the dead man smashed a bottle against the wall
and faced a number of young men who attacked him.

He was stabbed
some half-dozen times by, the prosecution say, Beveridge,’ con
tinued counsel.

Adding: ‘He (Mr Holden) staggered across the road and col

lapsed mortally wounded by a parked car.

‘
When interviewed under caution jobless Beveridge of Lamble
Street, Kentish Town exercised his right to silence.

Mr Holden, of Lyndhurst Road, Palmers Green died after one of
the stab wounds penetrated his heart.

The trial of Beveridge who denies murder on November 2, last,
continues.
