BMW driver swerved at cyclist and said: ‘I will run you over again.’
A BMW driver who injured a cyclist after driving at him and then threatening to do it again is facing jail.
Clifford Harper, 51, swerved his red saloon towards Peter Corfe in Crawford Street, Marylebone, central London, on March 31.
Harper then threatened Mr Corfe before driving off, saying: ‘I will run you over again if I have to.’
The driver was identified after shocked passers-by took pictures of the vehicle before he fled the scene.
He appeared at Southwark Crown Court today (Mon) wearing a black suit over a white shirt and silver tie to admit causing serious injury by dangerous driving after Mr Corfe was hurt in the clash.
Prosecutor Henry Fitch told an earlier hearing: ‘He accelerated his vehicle, swerving towards him, hitting the cyclist.
‘He got out and made some comments to the complainant to the effect of “I will run you over again if I have to” and then drove off.
‘Members of the public saw Mr Harper, took pictures of his vehicle and that’s how he was identified.’
Mr Corfe was left with ‘very serious injuries’, the prosecutor added.
Ajourning sentence while reports are prepared, Judge Philip Bartle, QC, said: ‘This is a serious matter.
‘I have read something about it and, on the face of it, the defendant is facing a custodial sentence.
‘But all options will be open.’
Harper, of Ravenscourt Gardens, Stamford Brook, west London, was bailed ahead of sentence at Southwark Crown Court on 30 October.
He was handed an interim driving ban until that date when a formal disqualification will be imposed.
