Consultant anaesthetist Jose Ramirez told how Walker suggested inserting two implants into the same breast when he realised his measurements were wrong.

But staff rejected the idea and the right implant was rushed from Preston Hospital while the patient lay on the operating table.

The woman had been referred to the surgeon for breast construction on July 15, 1996.

Dr Ramirez said: ‘Mr Walker tried three different implants and they were all too small.

‘The measurements were all incorrect.

‘He said ‘Well sister just give me two of them’ and put them both in on top of each other.

‘

Dr Ramirez earlier told the hearing how he had to loudly challenge Walker to stop operating on a 70-year-old woman when she began losing massive amounts of blood.

‘We couldn’t keep up by any means.

We asked Mr Walker to stop operating and tried to stop the bleeding.

‘He did not answer our suggestions.

I remember doing it on several occasions, at least twice.

‘We were getting more and more worried.

‘My urgency in asking him to stop operating was more and more persistent to the point that I was quite loud in my suggestions.

‘He just ignored us.

We knew we had a patient who was dying in our hands.

‘

The hearing continues.
