A pensioner’s sly campaign of ‘disgusting’ sexual abuse of a schoolgirl may have robbed her of her childhood, a court heard.
Now aged 10, the little girl has begun displaying inappropriate sexual behaviour amongst her peers.
London’s Southwark Crown Court was told that over three years ‘trusted’ 67-year-old Robin Dixon, a family friend, took advantage of his victim when she was aged between six and nine.
And the schoolgirl is now receiving counselling in a bid to help her over the or deal.
Dixon was jailed for 30 months and ordered to register as a sex offender for life after being convicted of seven charges of indecent assault – five of them specimen offences to reflect a pattern of behaviour – and one offence of indecency with a child between February 1997 and February last year.
And Judge Valerie Pearlman told the pensioner from the Frampton Park Estate, Hackney, east London, but for his own and his wife’s ill-health he would have been jailed for five years.
She said the victim and her mother visited on average weekly over the years, Dixon touching the girl’s private parts or enticing her to touch him when they were alone.
The judge said dixon’s ‘disgraceful’ conduct meant the girl had to undergo humiliating examinations by doctors to see if there was any physical damge, she added: ‘There is no medical evidence which assists me.
‘But it is also a fact that at the sametime, recently she has been displaying sexualised behaviour at school – although whether this was due to your conduct is uncertain,’ said Judge Pearlman.
‘But it is clear from two letters from community paediatricians that because of the allegations, the child was referred last July to their clinic by social workers and the child protection team, to receive help, advice and treatment.

The judge told Dixon: ‘I take into account you are 67, of previous good character and in the last four years have suffered poor health.
I also take into account the fact your wife also suffers ill health.
‘
She said it was sad to see a man of Dixon’s age and background in the dock.
‘The fact remains, nevertheless, that you are a very mature man in a position of trust to this child,’ said the judge.
‘I have to say I regard these offences, sexual offences, and your conduct, as disgusting and disgraceful, and have formed the view that only an immediate custodial sentence is justified and adequate to protect the public from serious harm from you.
‘
The judge said the personal circumstances of the defendant must take second place behind the duty of the court to protect the victim and reflect the seriousness of the offences.
‘Had it not been for two matters, your wife’s condition and your age and ill health, the sentence would have been double the sentence I impose.
‘
The judge also ordered that Dixon be supervised on his release for an extended period of three years and three months by probation officers ‘for the purpose of preventing the commission of futher offences and insuring your rehabilitation.
