CLAIR:BURGLAR WHO TARGETED SINGLE MUM SPARED JAIL
A burglar who broke into a single mother’s home and stole £600 worth of computer equipment was spared jail today (weds).
Sanchez Clair, 22, clambered through a downstairs window at the property and swiped a Nintendo Wii, an X-Box and a Samsung laptop before he fled the scene.
The father-of-four was caught after forensic officers discovered his finger print on the unlatched window.
The burglary, carried out by Clair and two unknown men, took place while the property in Westbourne Park Villas, Bayswater, west London, was empty.
Prosecutor Gavin Ludlow-Thompson told Southwark Crown Court: ‘During the course of March 14, 2011, the flat was broken into.
‘The owner left at 10.30am having, she thought, locked the doors and windows.
‘She returned later that day, at around 5pm, to find the flat had been broken into.
‘No damage had been caused and it appeared a window had been left on the latch.
‘She became aware that a quantity of electrical equipment had been taken; a Nintendo Wii, an X-Box and a Samsung laptop.
‘The value of the equipment had been around £600.’
He said that after the discovery of the finger print Clair was arrested, but denied carrying out the burglary.
Clair later admitted his role and told officers he was one of three men who entered the property.
Sentencing Clair Judge Deborah Taylor said: ‘Burglaries of people’s homes are serious offences.
‘They cause not only the loss of property but a feeling of insecurity and violation in their own homes.
‘This offence does pass the custody threshold but in the circumstances and the fact it is your first offence I am going to suspend the sentence.’
Clair was given a six month prison sentence suspended for 12 months and ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.
Clair, of (44) Whymark Avenue, Wood Green, north London, admitted burglary.
