Croydon tram drivers judge when it’s time to brake by the ‘bumps in the road’

A tram driver who was working on the Croydon tramlink hours before seven passengers died in a crash said he used ‘bumps in the road’ as a signal for when to apply the brakes. Alfred Dorris, 49, may have fallen asleep shortly before he took a bend near Sandilands at 40mph when the speed limit was 12mph. Windows smashed and doors were ripped off as the tram fell on its side and those who died were thrown out and trapped…
