Drug dealer ran home to mummy
A convicted drug dealer breached his ASBO by running to his mother when police spotted him lurking in a doorway, a court heard.
Fouad Soussi, 22, who was born profoundly deaf, panicked when he saw officers approaching and legged it down Portobello Road, west London.
He was desperate to get to his mother’s house but ended up in an exclusion zone as set out in a previous court order.
When police caught up with him they found him in possession of an unregistered mobile phone,
Hammersmith Magistrates’ Court heard.
Prosecutor Tom Gill said: ‘On Friday 20 January officers were on duty in Treverton Street when they saw two males in a doorway.
‘The defendant was detained and then all of a sudden attempted to flee the area.
‘He was pursued by officers and ran into an exclusion zone as set by Isleworth Crown Court.
‘He ran into Portobello Road whilst being chased by police, when searched he had an unregistered mobile phone on his person.’
When arrested Soussi gave a no comment interview.
It was the second breach of his ASBO in a month, the court heard.
Soussi said he ‘panicked’ when he saw police and ran towards his mum’s house on the other side of Portobello Road.
He was blocked form getting a contract phone following his stint behind bars and feels ‘exasperated’ when trying to get a pay as you go sim in shops due to his deafness, the court heard.
He claimed he cannot ask his friends for help getting a registered phone as they are all deaf.
Soussi was part of a gang of drug dealers from west London who were jailed for more than four years in 2014.
Photos found on their phones showed chief supplier Zakaria Chentouf with a stack of £50 notes.
Sophian Chhayra, described as a ‘middle man’ was shown with a big smile on his face while clutching a large bag of cannabis.
Soussi, who was assisted by a sign language interpreter in court, exchanged drugs for cash in plain sight from the balcony at his mum’s house and in daylight on the streets.
He got 15 months behind bars for his role as the ‘principal street dealer’ in the operation in October 2014.
Soussi was also slapped with an ASBO at Isleworth Crown Court preventing him from having an unregistered phone or going to Portobello Road.
District Judge Vanessa Baraitser decided to impose a ‘low level’ community order.
She said: ‘The order made is 2014 was made for a reason, the reason being that you are connected with drugs.
‘Since that order you have breached it twice now in the short time it has been in place.
‘I have heard your reasons for being in possession of the phone but you need to understand the consequences are serious.
‘You ran into the exclusion zone as a result of being pursued by the police.’
‘I am going to impose a low level community order but if you come before the court again it will be your third breach and you risk going back into custody.’
Soussi, of (10-12) West Cromwell Road, Kensington, admitted to breaching his anti-social behaviour order.
He was given a 28 day tagged curfew between 8pm-4am at his home address and was ordered to pay costs of £170.
