GIPSON: YOB ATTACKED EX AND HER MOTHER AFTER ACRIMONIOUS SPLIT

A yob hurled a brick at his ex-girlfriend after the couple split up, and punched her mother in the head as she tried to report a second terrifying attack, a court heard.

Charlie Gipson, 23, confronted ex-girlfriend Sophie Kohl in the street before subjecting her to an attack that shredded her shirt, Snaresbrook Crown Court heard.

Days later, he punched Justine Kohl in the head as she phoned police begging for help during a second street attack in which he corned them on his moped.

On both occasions, Gipson then drove off on his bike, breaching a year long driving ban that he had been handed months earlier, the court was told.

He had claimed that the attacker was not him, and he was asleep in bed when both incidents took place.

Sylvia Booker, prosecuting, said Gipson had twice launched attacks on his ex-girlfriend in February this year after the breakdown of their relationship.

‘Miss Kohl and Mr Gipson were in a two-year relationship that came to an acrimonious demise,’ she said.

‘By 5 February, there were some Blackberry messages being sent, we say from this defendant’s mobile phone to Miss Kohl.

‘They culminated on 6 February, when you will hear from her he was waiting for her by her car.

‘It was there that he grabbed her, shouted at her, and threw a portion of brick at her, hitting her on the leg.

Miss Kohl was left with a large bruise to her leg from the attack, and Gipson was also charged with criminal damage after destroying her shirt in the tirade.

He continued to try to contact Kohl over the next few days, though she did not want to speak to him, and went on to attack her again after spotting her on Commercial Road, Stepney with her mother, Justine Kohl on February 9.

‘We say he pulling his moped in front of them, blocking off the pavement,’ said Ms Booker.

He then began shouting and grabbing at Kohl, who asked her mother to call the police, jurors heard.

‘Sophie’s mother at this stage pulled out her mobile to call the police.

‘It was during this course of that phone call that we say this defendant punched her in the head.’

Ms Booker added: ‘On each of those occasions, the defendant will say he was in bed and asleep.’

Gipson, of (14) Downfield Road, Cheshunt, denies one count of assault occasioning ABH, two counts of common assault and one of criminal damage.

He further denies two counts of driving while disqualified and one count of dangerous driving.

The hearing continues.
