Hit and run driver admits killing pedestrian

An uninsured BMW driver has admitted killing a pedestrian and failing to stop after the accident.

Loislane Annon (corr), 33, collided with Vasile-Florin Oltenau, 30, in Portland Road, South Norwood, southeast London, at 7.30am on April 14 last year.

She left the scene before police officers arrived at the scene and was located a short distance away within an hour, the Old Bailey heard.

Mr Oltenau, originally from Romania, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wearing a brown coat and black headscarf, appeared at court on crutches.

Annon, of London Road, Croydon, admitted causing death by careless driving driving while uninsured and without a licence, and failing to stop following an accident.

But she denied the more serious charge of causing death by dangerous driving and will stand trial on a date to be fixed.

Judge Deborah Trowler QC granted her bail ahead of a further case management hearing on July 14.

Following the tragic death of Mr Olteanu, a Met Police spokesperson said: ‘Vasile-Florin Olteanu, a 38-year-old man from Romania, died after being in collision with a vehicle at 07:30hrs on Tuesday, 14 April as he walked along Portland Road, SE25.

‘Officers and colleagues from the London Ambulance Service attended and found Mr Olteanu with severe injuries, and despite the efforts of medics, he sadly died at the scene.’
