Nursing Auxiliary Mary Winter-Nolan told the commi

Nursing Auxiliary Mary Winter-Nolan told the committee how Dutfield constantly slipped innuendos into work conversation.

The attractive auburn-haired woman denied she had returned the sexual banter or felt attracted to the male nurse.

She said: ‘He would change words and instead of saying someone had to leave he said we would be ejaculated and stuff like this.

‘But when more senior members of staff were around he was quite appropriate, just like everybody else on the ward, quite professional.

‘It was continual.

Sometimes it was in the patient areas, others it was handover, sometimes in the corridor or on the stairs.

‘I would say to him “I am a married woman, my husband wouldn’t speak to me like that.

” A couple of times I swore at him.

‘But it didn’t stop.

Initially I felt I could deal with it myself but then it just got so bad that I did report it to my manager.

‘If he touched me I would say please don’t invade my space.

But he just made a joke of that.

He would continue.

‘

Mrs Winter-Nolan finally decided enough was enough when he said her children were in a Borstal and only stole from M&S.

‘I was very angry, I swore at him and I stormed off the ward.

‘

She said there was no atmosphere of sexual banter in the ward.

‘We were mainly female staff, female patients, so it was basically knitting, and cookery and what was the best offer in the shops.

‘

Earlier the committee heard how Dutfield gave a patient, known as Ms B, a contraceptive injection without authority.

The woman was in her early 30s and often wore short skirts and tight shorts – causing Dutfield to say she was ‘looking for it’, the committee heard.

Mrs Winter-Nolan later saw Dutfield go into her cubicle and draw the curtains to give the injection.

She overheard him say: “Lay still woman, I only want a piece of arse.

‘

The hearing continues.
