Ordeal of 12-year-old girl
A 12-year-old girl told a court she wanted to kill herself after she was targeted by a prolific child abuser.
Student Ramzan Rajab, 21, posed as a teenage girl to befriend his victims on social media platforms, then requested they send him sexually explicit photos themselves.
Rajab threatened to share pictures and videos with their friends if they refused to comply with his twisted demands, Wood Green Crown Court heard.
Following his arrest last December police seized electronic devices containing thousands of images and videos of children.
In the 24-hour period before his arrest, Rajab had tried to contact 60-70 additional victims.
One of his sickening messages said: ‘You have got five minutes to send a bunch more. I want to see you strip.’
In a statement read out in court one of his victims said she was 12 when Rajan first contacted her.
She said: ‘I felt I want to kill myself.
‘I felt there was no other way out. A 12-year-old. Those were the feelings I had.’
She said that the experience had affected her relationship with others, including her family, and resulted in extreme anxiety that affected her school grades.
‘I find it difficult to imagine being able to forgive him,’ she said.
‘It is beyond comprehension to me how someone is able to do that.’
One of Rajab’s victims even sent him a video of her self-harming in a bid to stop him but he just demanded further sexual material.
Prosecutor Liam Gregory described it as the ‘remorseless pursuit of this young girl for his own amusement and personal sexual gratification, with complete disregard for her obvious suffering.’
The judge, Mr Recorder Philip Brook-Smith, KC, described how Rajab had groomed one of his victims.
He said: ‘She had gone on a website called Kids Chat hoping to find new friends.
‘Instead she found you.
‘You had a blank profile photo and you engaged in conversation with her on the site, and that turned to Snapchat, where at some stage you revealed that you were actually a boy rather than a girl.’
Rajab had originally pretended to be a 12-year-old girl named Melissa.
The judge continued: ‘You asked for photos of her in her underwear and you snapshotted them.
‘You became more demanding in respect of what images you wanted of her. You sent her a video of yourself masturbating and you demanded more and more graphic images.
‘You threatened her with exposure if more photos or images were not sent.
‘It even reached a point where in desperation she sent you a video of her self harming.’
Rajab fainted in the dock as he was sentenced and he received treatment.
After he had recovered Judge Brooke-Smith jailed him for a total of four years.
He also ordered Rajab serve an additional year on licence following his release, and ordered that he be added to the sex offenders’ register for an indefinite period.
Rajab, of Rectory Road, Hackney, admitted 12 separate charges, including five counts of inciting or encouraging a child to engage in sexual activities, one count of threatening to disclose private sexual photographs, and six counts of making indecent photographs and videos of children.
