Rapper faces jail for domestic violence

A rapper who assaulted his ex-girlfriend in front of their two children was warned he could face jail.

Reiss Callender, 25, beat Harley Coleman at her south London home after a row about their failed relationship descended into violence.

Callender appeared at Camberwell Magistrates’ Court today (tues) flanked by two friends who wished him luck before hearing.

The aspiring rap star, who goes by the pseudonym ‘Real To Mine’, regularly posts videos of him singing to backing music to his 284 Facebook followers.

Aislinn Rice, prosecuting, said: ‘The incident was on the 24 March this year.

‘It occurred at the home address of Harley Coleman – the mother of the defendants’ children.

‘They broke up in December 2016 and the defendant has had a hard time accepting the relationship has ended.

‘Ms Coleman said that at approximately 9am she had several items thrown at her by the defendant.

‘She told him she wanted to go to see her mother but he continued to hit her during a scuffle.

‘During this time, the two children are presumably in the house.

‘The complainant did try to calm Mr Callender so as not to alarm the children.

‘There are photos of the injuries to her hand and upper arm.

‘Mr Callender gave a ‘no comment’ interview.’

Bruce Reid, defending Callender, said: ‘I would invite the court to consider a domestic violence prevention programme instead of a custodial sentence.

‘Mr Callender was released on bail following the incident and he has committed no offences since his release.

‘He has also attended today.

‘I request that the case be adjourned so a pre-sentence report can be made.’

Magistrate Stephen Roberts said: ‘This was a particularly nasty incident when children were present.

‘We have not ruled out a custodial sentence.’

Callender, of Danby Street, Southwark, admitted assault by beating and will return to court for sentence on 2 May at 9.30am.
