Romanian cable thieves left Network Rail with £46,000 bill

  Network Rail were left with a £46,000 bill after a member of a Romanian organised crime gang stole copper cables from newly laid tracks, a court heard. Georginel-Fernando Ciuflea, 20, was caught with a bag of tools after being spotted by patrolling British Transport Police officers near Romford train station. His unidentified accomplice managed to escape with only £400 of copper but the cost of relaying the cable and repairing the damage will cost Network Rail just over £46,400….
