Glazier trial halted
The trial of a glazier accussed of trying to rape and
strangle a teenage nanny on Mitcham Common has been halted after
new evidence came to light.
Defence barristers for Kenneth Brown, 22, claim he was
insane when he carried out the attack, which was so terrifying
it has been likened to a Hithcock horror movie.
The case rests on whether Brown, who the defence argue
was acting like an ‘automaton,’ had control over his actions when
he attacked the 18-year-old girl on April 6 last year.
On the second day of the trial barristers told Judge
Kenneth Richardson, QC, that a previously unseen psychiatric
report has surfaced.
The implications of the report left the judge with no
alternative but to discharge the jury so both prosecution and
defence can consider their positions.
Brown of Grove Road, Mitcham, denies attempted murder,
kidnap, two charges of attempted rape, indecent assault, unlawful
wounding and attempting to cause grievious bodily harm.
A date has yet to be fixed for his retrial.
