Woman was assaulted by cop after ‘a lot of kissing’
A woman told how she dialled 999 and told the operator: ‘I hate to say this but one of your officers had sex with me without my consent.’
PC Rupert Edwards, 30, is accused of assaulting two women in the space of 11 days.
He met the first woman at the Slug and Lettuce in Richmond, southwest London, on August 25 last year, Inner London Crown Court heard.
She claims they had consensual sex twice before he raped her.
He met the second woman at The Ship pub in Wandsworth on 4 September last year, and went with her to McDonald’s afterwards.
She claims she awoke to find Edwards raping her.
In a video-recorded interview with the police the second woman said: ‘On a Sunday evening I went to The Ship with two friends.
‘It was a normal night, a normal evening.’
She said that after she had met Edwards at the pub they went to McDonald’s.
‘We walked from The Ship to McDonald’s,’ she said.
‘There was a lot of kissing, a lot.’
She said they then went back to her address where they engaged in other forms of sexual activity before the alleged rape.
‘I fell asleep, and I remember feeling like he was playing with me down there.
‘I was still half-asleep and then I felt him inside me, and I realised it was his penis.
‘I had said before that I couldn’t have sex, because we had no condoms.
‘I said: ‘Just get out. Get out, leave’.’
‘I remember saying something along the lines of ‘Why would you do something like that’, or something along those lines.’
‘He was saying ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry’, that was it.’
After he had left she texted him saying: ‘Thank you so much for destroying my faith in the criminal justice system.’
Prosecutor Robert Brown asked her why she had sent this text.
‘I was aware of his role in society. I really don’t know. That’s just how I felt at the time,’ she said.
She phoned the police after she had texted Edwards.
‘I felt in need of some help. I just knew in my heart that what had happened wasn’t right.’
When she phoned the police, she told them ‘I hate to say this but one of your officers had sex with me without my consent.’
Edwards, of Ashtead, Surrey, denies two counts of rape.
