The trial of a senior MOD civil servant accused of taking
back-handers on contracts awarded to foreign arms firms was
adjourned today (Fri) after a juror was taken ill.
Judge Andrew Brooks said that prosecutor Mr Victor Temple,
QC, and defence counsel Mr Roy Amlott, QC, defending Gordon Foxley,
will now give their final speeches on Monday before he sums up the
case to the jury.
Sixty-nine-year-old Foxley, director of ammunition procurement
from 1981-84 is alleged to have entered into corrupt agreements with
each of three foreign companies to receive secret commission based
on the value of contracts.
Foxley, of Gillots Lane, Henley-on-Thames, Oxon, denies 12
charges of corruption involving ammunition contracts awarded to
the firms Fratelli Bortelli, of Milan, Gebruder Junghans, of
Schramberg, Germany, and AS Raufoss, of Gjovic, Norway.
The jury is now likely to be sent out to consider its verdicts
on Tuesday of next week.
