The trial of a 20 stone pimp accused of raping a 14-year-old babysitter had to be aborted after a key witness collapsed in the witness stand.
The heavily pregnant prostitute, who claims five months of rapes and beatings at the hands of film producer Raymond Genas, 36, complained of feeling unwell during her evidence.
Judge Simon Goldstein had no alternative but to discharge the jury and Genas will now have to wait until the new year to be tried.
Judge Goldstein told the jury the trial would have to be aborted as she was ‘not at all well.
‘
Genas is also alleged to raped the 14-year-old babysitter after begging her for sex.
He then pinned her against a wall and threatened to kill her if she told anyone.
The 21-year-old lady of the night, originally from Devon, broke down as she was being cross examined by Genas’ barrister Nigel Salts QC.
It was first thought the woman had gone into labour.
But Brendan Kelly for the prosecution later confirmed she had not.
‘She is seeing a GP at present.
It is still the case she is not in labour,’ Mr Kelly said.
Judge Goldstein told the jury: ‘It could have been very serious, it could have been a false alarm.
‘She was in some pain and she has been given some medication.
‘She is not here today, she is not at all well.
‘There is no realistic prospect that the situation would get better.
‘We have to abandon, abort the trial I am afraid.
It is one of those things.
‘
The prostitute ended up fleeing to the home of an ex-client in Gravesend, Kent, to get away from the defendant.
He was finally arrested in February this year.
Genas, from Deptford High Street, Deptford, denies five counts of rape, three of indecent assault, two of causing actual bodily harm, and living off the immoral earnings of prostitution.
