Millionaire playboy Baron Bloom told a court today
Millionaire playboy Baron Bloom told a court today (tues) he was ”horrified” when he discovered his glamorous young lover was just a schoolgirl.
When the 28-year-old former model learned the girl was aged just 14 he immediately broke off their two-month sexual relationship, he said.
But she then sent him a bouquet of flowers, and bombarded him with text messages and e-mails pledging her undying love, the socialite told the Old Bailey.
Bloom, son of multi-millionaire property magnate Desmond Bloom and a former Marie Claire ‘man of the month’, is accused of sexually assaulting the pretty public schoolgirl.
The attack is said to have happened at his plush bachelor’s pad in Kensington, west London in September 2001.
Bloom told jurors he met the girl at a Starbucks coffee shop in Chelsea in June that year.
The well-spoken defendant said: ‘After a short period of time we were going out together as boyfriend and girlfriend.
‘When I first met her I asked for her age and she told me she was 18.
I believed her.
She looked 18.
‘I later learned that she went to a private school and I knew that particular college went up to 18 years of age.
‘She looked 18, she acted it at all times.
She was well developed physically.
‘She said she wanted to become an actress.
Nothing was said to doubt she was not 18.
‘
Bloom said he took her on dates to top restaurants and cruised the streets taking his pick from a fleet of cars including a pnds stlg 165,000 Lamborghini Diablo.
Within weeks they were having sex at his flat in Blythe Road, West Kensington and constantly phoning each other.
Defence QC, William Clegg asked him: ‘Did she consent to sexual intercourse?’
Bloom replied: ‘Yes.
‘
Mr Clegg: ‘Did you use force in any way?’
Bloom: ‘No.
‘
In September the defendant met the girl’s mother for the first time, he told jurors.
‘Her mother told me that she was underage.
Before that I had no idea,’ Bloom recalled.
‘I do not recall the words exactly but she said either ‘underage’, or ‘aged 14’.
‘I knew it was against the law when her mother told me.
I was absolutely horrified and that was the time the relationship ended.
‘
But soon after Bloom started to get e-mails and text messages from the teenager and on one occasion received a bunch of flowers.
The message in the bouquet read: ‘Dear Baron, I still love you.
Hope we finish on a high note, think about it though.
‘
In an e-mail she wrote: ‘Hi darling, my sweetheart.
I hope you get this email.
I love you tons and believe me, there is no one else.
‘
But Bloom told the court that her e-mails became sour and aggressive when he did not reciprocate his feelings.
A later e-mail allegedly read: ‘Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
Heard you’ve gone bankrupt.
‘
Another taunted him about needing Viagra, while a faxed letter ridiculed his Jewish religion and added: ‘Hitler should have been made a saint.
‘
Bloom, of [8] Hall Gate, Hall Road St John’s Wood, northwest London, denies indecent assault between September 1 and September 30, 2001.
The trial continues.
