A sex predator obsessed with Oriental women has been jailed for 18 years for raping three Japanese victims.

Nigel Dean, 35, prowled central London language schools and foreign language book shops hunting his prey.

He had spent years in Tokyo and impressed the women with his fluency in Japanese and his knowledge of the the country.

But after winning their trust he lured them to a hotel room or attacked them in their home.

Dean then threatened to kill the women unless they submitted to his sordid demands.

He denied attacking the three women claiming they consented.

But a jury at Blackfriars Crown Court convicted him of the three rape attacks after a three week trial.

Judge Christopher Hordern, QC, told Dean: ‘Each of your victims was subjected to what they clearly found a terrifying, as well as a defiling experience.

‘Each one, I have no doubt, will be psychologically scared for life by what you did.

‘It seems to me that you are an extremely dangerous man.

‘

The court heard in October 2000 Dean was given a two year suspended sentence in Tokyo for causing bodily injury to a woman and immigration charges.

In what the judge called ‘an unfortunately similar
case’ Dean refused to leave a 27-year-old woman’s apartments, punching her and attempting to strangle her.

In the early 1990s he was also cleared of rape at the Old Bailey when he was alleged to have attacked another a Japanese woman.

Jurors heard how Dean seduced his victims after claiming he was a skilled guitarist and pianist and had worked with top musicians in the Orient.

He targeted his first victim, Miss A, after meeting her in the street in Piccadilly on January 6, last year.

Calling himself ‘Joe’, Dean swapped numbers after the journalist told him she was in London to learn English.

Dean then offered to give her some media contacts to help her career.

But after luring her to a hotel near Victoria Station Dean raped her ‘in exchange’ for a telephone number.

Dean told the petrified victim the police would not believe her rape allegation because they were in a ‘Japanese love hotel’ where adults went for consensual sex.

In an attempt to block her ordeal from her mind, Miss A, 24, decided to treat the attack as a ‘one-night stand.

But she was contacted by police last November after detectives discovered her mobile number in Dean’s Filofax.

Dean also denied raping Miss B three weeks later on January 31 in a hotel near Victoria.

She had been approached by Dean, now calling himself John, outside a language school where she accepted his offer to teach her ‘conversational English.

The court heard how Miss B, 26, was led to a hotel and forced inside at knifepoint, after Dean warned her: ‘If you don’t come in you will die.

‘

Dean then half strangled the woman after telling her: ‘I want sex.

‘

He added: ‘If you do it, I will let you go home.

‘

Dean pounced on Miss C, 29, in her home in Notting Hill, west London in mid-July last year.

She was approached by Dean, this time introducing himself as ‘David’, outside a dance studio in Covent Garden.

The woman gave Dean her mobile phone number and he took her sightseeing before buying food to cook her a Japanese meal.

But once in her home Dean bragged of his kick-boxing skills and his ability to break her jaw unless she had sex with him.

Jurors heard how the woman thought she was going to die unless she agreed to his demands.

In a terrifying ordeal she was raped four times.

Giving evidence Dean maintained sex with Miss B and Miss C was consensual.

He admitted meeting Miss A, but claimed they never had sex and the allegation was a police ‘stitch-up.

But Sally Howes, QC, prosecuting, said: ‘It is the Crown’s case that the defendant deliberately targeted all three women by approaching them while they were alone, engaging them in conversation and very quickly getting their trust, getting their telephone numbers and arranging to meet them.

‘After each subsequent meeting each woman was raped.

‘

Dean, of Evelyn Street, Deptford, denied one count of raping Miss A.

He also denied raping Miss B and also a charge of choking her to enable him to carry out the attack.

Dean had also pleaded not guilty to four counts of rape on Miss C.
