Russell Brand ‘apologised for treating victim like an animal’
Russell Brand apologised to a woman he attacked the bedroom of his Hampstead home when she told him she had assaulted her ‘like an animal,’ a court heard.
Brand, 51, met the woman after a stand-up comedy show and had consensual oral sex with her in his dressing room in February 2009.
Several days Brand sent a driver to fetch the woman to his £2.3m three-storey home on Gardnor Road in Hampstead Village where he raped her in his ‘enormous’ bedroom, is is claimed.
Brand denies three counts of rape, three of sexual assault and one of indecent assault against six women from 1999 to 2009.
In her video recorded evidence given in 2023, Ms E said on the day she was wearing a skirt, tights and a lace top and a coat.
After the shower she did not put her clothes back on.
‘We went into the bedroom, went on the bed and kissed and started having normal penetrative sex.
‘We had oral sex. It didn’t feel like some urgent rush.
‘It was the sort of normal process you would have leading up to vaginal intercourse.
She said he wore a condom.
Asked whether the sex felt ‘intimate and nice’ or ‘different’, she replied: ‘I didn’t feel I enjoyed it…I just felt really uncomfortable. Having to take a shower. I didn’t feel the way he had made it sound in his messages.
‘But I didn’t not consent to that,’ he said.
‘It didn’t drastically change until he put his penis inside me anally.
Brand ‘turned her over’ and she was on all fours, Ms E said.
‘I didn’t put my face on the pillow at that point. I put my arms on the bed. I thought he was going to have sex with me vaginally in that position.’
She said it went on for a few minutes.
‘I couldn’t breathe. When I eventually said something, “please stop” and I said it repeatedly.
‘He looked horrified. I thought he was horrified at what had just happened. I thought that was what the look was.’
Brand then told her to get some wipes to ‘clean up the mess’ before he put the TV on, took a phone call, and left the room.
Wearing a black waistcoat, white shirt and grey trousers the actor and comedian sat in the dock listening intently to Ms E’s video interview.
She texted Brand to say he had treated her ‘like an animal.’
The woman, Ms E, said she ran into Brand while she was working at the Edinburgh Fringe festival around six months after the alleged offence.
In a second video interview made in August 2025, Ms E was asked by police to go through a few points.
She was asked by the police officer: ‘after the incident, had there been any other communications between you and Russell Brand?’
‘Nothing in person. He sent a message in the summer,’ when she was working at the Edinburgh festival she said.
‘He sent a message… I saw him in the courtyard of the Pleasance theatre and ‘I ran out of the courtyard.’
She said: ‘I got a message … I don’t recall the content of the message, it was just a random message I’d say. I don’t know if he’d saw me.
‘My response to the message was “why are you even messaging me?”
‘His response was “because you’re dirty and I want to push you further.”
‘I was upset. I was working with a team of people to whom I hadn’t disclosed what had happened to me.
She said: ‘I replied: “You pushed me far enough. You treated me like an animal.”
His response was immediate, she said, and he texted: “I’m sorry”
Ms E said she had disclosed some details to three friends at Edinburgh that she ‘had received a message and that’s why she was upset.’
Asked if she had stored Brand’s number, Ms E said she had.
She said she did not ‘have a reason’ for not mentioning the messages in the earlier police interview in 2023.
