A doctor who was put under strict conditions for incompetently putting patients’ lives at risk will have to wait until July to continue his fight against the General Medical Council.

Tushar Bhadra, 64, is appealing for an order banning him from working in accident and emergency medicine to be lifted.

He was suspended by the GMC in July 1998 after being found guilty of serious professional misconduct for a series of mistakes at Northampton General Hospital.

Bhadra was later allowed back to practice on condition he undergo retraining and stay in a senior house officer post in the NHS.

The doctor, of 16 Roxwell Road, Chelmsford, Essex, now argues the conditions are ‘impossible.

‘

A consultant in A and E medicine at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, Essex, said he was prepared to supervise Bhadra.

Antony Mariathas told the GMC conduct committee: ‘If I am asked ”Are you happy to train him?” then I would say yes.

‘But I would not be able to comment on his surgical skills.

‘

The hearing is expected to continue on July 21 and 22.
