A jury was provisionally chosen to try the case after the judge said anyone who worked for ITV, the show’s producers Celador, or who had been involved in the show should be excluded.

One juror was excused after he said his grandfather had worked for ITV and others were excluded from the four week trial because of work, holiday and family commitments.

Judge Rivlin warned the six men and six women and two reserve jurors not to discuss the case.

‘There is likely to be considerable media interest in this trial,’ he said.

‘I want you not talk to about this case between now and Wednesday.

‘

He added: ‘Say as little as possible about the fact you are likely to be serving on this jury.

‘Should anyone approach you at any time you should have nothing to do with it and you should just tell the police.

‘

The judge said he would allow the twelve to consider carefully whether they would have any problems sitting on the case over the next 48 hours.

The trial was adjourned until Wednesday.
