A kinky psychiatrist tortured and abused his girlfriend during a bizarre 10-month sado-masochistic fling, the GMC heard today.

Dr Nicholas Stuart-Smith, 34, dripped wax over the girl’s body, whipped her with a riding crop and scratched her with hypodermic needles he took from his hospital, it was claimed.

He also abused with nipple clamps, punched and bit her and used a knife on her private parts, the GMC in central London heard.

Dr Stuart-Smith even engaged in disgusting ‘golden shower’ sex acts in which he would get the 23-year-old to urinate on him, and used hospital computers to log on to perverted internet web sites.

She eventually broke off the relationship after finding out he was seeing someone else and accused him of only wanting her for the ‘nasty stuff.

‘

The GMC heard how Dr Stuart-Smith was working at the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge in March 1997 when he placed an advert in Time Out magazine asking to meet a ‘young, well-educated, voluptuous brunette.

‘

The woman, referred to as Miss A, contacted a voicemail number and was told it would help if she was into ‘rough sex.

‘

Divorcee Dr Stuart-Smith met the young woman the following day and after a few dates they started a sexual relationship.

Barrister Ian Stern, for the GMC, told the hearing that when the doctor first approached the idea of violent sex at his flat in Cambridge, he was ‘very persuasive.

‘He lit a number of candles and said he wanted to use the wax during sex, and he then dropped hot wax on her.

‘He said to just give these things a try.

Things then progressed even further.

Outside the bedroom he was loving but inside the bedroom their sexual relationship became more and more violent.

‘He would scratch her breasts with needles from the hospital and draw blood, and sometimes use them around the vagina.

‘He would whip, bite and punch her.

On one occasion, having tied her up with rope, he actually inserted a knife inside her vagina.

‘He purchased and used nipple clamps and he liked her to urinate on him.

He spoke of wanting to nail her breasts to the table and of cutting her.

‘

Mr Stern added that Dr Stuart-Smith had told Miss A that he did not like receiving pain but ‘to give others displeasure was his pleasure.

‘

The hearing was told that in November 1997 the couple drove to a library at the Addenbrooke’s Hospital and looked up S and M web sites on a computer.

But in February 1998, after several break-ups, the couple split up for good.

Mr Stern said the doctor had told the woman that he was seeing someone else and she realised she was being used.

But after he drove her to Cambridge train station for her journey back to London Dr Stuart-Smith assaulted Miss A and she went to the police.

Mr Stern continued: ‘She told the police of the assault and the nature of their sexual relationship.

‘

When Dr Stuart-Smith was quizzed by officers he denied indulging in violent sex but admitted that they had enjoyed ‘slapping, biting, clinching, and light scratching’ but said it was nothing out of the ordinary.

He also claimed that the woman had made up the allegations after hearing how another ex-girlfriend of the doctor had also accused him of showing an interest in sado-masochism.

The GMC was told that woman had been engaged to the doctor but broke it off after two weeks of perverted sex in which he injected her, and drank her blood.

In June 1998 Dr Stuart-Smith was convicted of common assault on Miss A regarding the incident at Cambridge train station.

Dr Stuart-Smith, of Parkers House, Regent Street, Cambridge, denies one charge of serious professional misconduct.

The hearing continues.
