A paedophile who sexually abused young boys after
A paedophile who sexually abused young boys after grooming them with sweets, porn videos, and bouncy castles was jailed for seven years today (THUR).
John Chudley, 46, was part of a sick child abuse ring operating among the local children of an Essex town during the 1980s.
He lured eight boys to his home after offering them work on his mobile video van and market stall in Collier Row, Romford.
Chudley would also allow some to drive his car.
One 15-year-old was seriously sexually assaulted by the pervert while jailed paedophile David Pike and another unknown man watched.
Police are now investigating an alleged paedophile ring operating in the area during the 1980s.
It emerged today he now wants to write to his victims.
And Judge Jeremy Roberts, QC, had to call for order today (Thurs) after relatives of the boys screamed abuse from the public gallery upon hearing the sick suggestion.
Former territorial army para Chudley had already been jailed for 15 months in 1989 for four counts of indecent assault committed during the same period.
Indecent photographs of boys were discovered at Chudley’s home in Tilbury when he was arrested in September last year.
There was uproar in the public gallery of the Old Bailey when they heard he had offered to apologise in writing to his victims.
One man shouted out: ‘You sick f***.
‘
Judge Roberts told Chudley: ‘All these offences involve serious abuse of children at impressionable times of their lives.
‘You did not realise what damage your self-indulgent conduct was going to inflict on these young people.
‘
The judge said he had cut Chudley’s sentence in half from 14 years because of the guilty plea and the length of time since the offence.
Several victims walked out in disgust when the jail term was passed.
Prosecutor Gino Connor said Chudley was a ‘skilled groomer’ who used a variety of techniques to snare the boys.
‘He provided an open house where sweets, cigarettes, alcohol and pornographic videos were available.
‘He also ran a mobile video library and market stall, at both of which he employed his victims.
‘
Boys were even allowed to stay with him overnight with Chudley with the consent of their parents when he visited markets across the country.
They were encouraged to go to off-licences and one boys was told to rob a chemist’s van for drugs.
‘A particular favourite for the boys was his interest in cars and the freedom he allowed them to drive them,’ said Mr Connor.
The most serious attack came in 1987 when one boy was plied with alcohol by David Pike and woke up to find himself being restrained face down on the bed.
‘His shoulders were being held down by Pike while he was being raped by the defendant.
A third man looked on,’ said Mr Connor.
The first 14-year-old victim worked for Chudley at his mobile van for three or four days a week between seven and 10pm.
On one occasion in 1983 or 1984 he was encouraged to seriously sexually assault the older man in his bedroom.
Another 14-year-old, who lived in the same street as Chudley, Hillrise Road, became part of a group of boys who knew David Pike in 1986.
He visited Chudley to watch pornographic films and the indecency included mutual masturbation.
Two other youths aged 14 were indecently assaulted in the same way.
The fifth victim, now aged 29, lived in the same road and was enticed by the bouncy castles, motorbikes, cars and go-carts owned by Chudley.
He claimed the pervert encouraged him to steal drugs from a chemist’s van.
The next boy was 11 in 1986 when he moved to his grandmother’s house in Hillrise Road.
He was enticed by the bouncy castle and other ‘treats’.
Chudley admitted two counts of serious sexual assault and five of indecent assault against the boys aged between eleven and 15, from 1983 to 1987.
Two other offences of indecent assault against an eighth victim were taken into consideration.
Defence barrister Laura Brickman said Chudley still denied having a mobile video van or encouraging the boys to commit thefts and take drugs.
She told the judge he had not reoffended since his release in 1990 and had formed relationships with two homosexual partners.
The court heard David Pike had not been charged with these matters but was currently serving time in prison for other offences.
Chudley, of Feenan Highway, Tilbury, Essex, was jailed for six years for the most serious sexual assault and twelve months consecutive for the other six counts, but to run concurrently with each other.
