A young mother was viciously raped in her home by a man
she thought was a friend, the Old Bailey heard.
David Ofori-Atta, 22, was invited into the 26-year-old’s
New Addington home when he made a late night visit in August of
last year, the court was told.
He went out to fetch some lager then the pair sat drinking
coffee and playing Blackjack.
‘But as the evening progressed Mr Ofori-Atta started
pestering her, wanting her to go out with him’, said prosecutor
Mr John Crocker.
He began kissing the woman’s neck and followed her when she
went into the kitchen, claimed counsel.
‘He pushed her against the breakfast bar.
He pushed himself
against her,’ alleged counsel.
Next he tried to pull the young mother’s dressing gown off
and they ended up on the floor.
‘He lay on top of her.
She was crying.
He told her ‘not to
make me f***ing mad.
‘
Ofori-Atta then literally tore off the woman’s knickers and
raped her, it was alleged.
‘She had made it abundantly clear she did not want
intercourse with him,’ said Mr Crocker.
When he had finished, Ofori-Atta told her not to
inform the police ‘or she would be dead,’ alleged counsel.
After he had left the house the woman had two baths but did
not report him for some days.
Before the police arrested Ofori-Atta he met Miss X victim
in the Croydon branch of Woolworths when he was with another
woman.
She desperately tried to hide from him but, it was he claimed,
he grabbed hold of her and said he had heard she had been ‘saying
things,’ Mr Crocker continued.
‘He said words to the effect of: ”If one person tells me
anything I will go round to your flat with a gun, put it to your
head and you will be dead,” claimed counsel.
Ofori-Atta was arrested the following day and a DNA test linked
him to the alleged rape.
When interviewed he exercised his right to silence.
Ofori-Atta, who was living in various addresses
in the Croydon area, denies rape on the night of August 25 to
26 and making a death threat on September 7.
The trial continues.
