A young nanny was subjected to a ‘brutal and degrading’ sex
attack on Mitcham Common by a knife-wielding man, the Old
Bailey heard today Monday.

The 18-year-old thought she was going to die when Kenneth
Brown, 21, then alleged stabbed and began strangling her.

She managed to break free and run, semi-naked, screaming to
the safety of a nearby house.

Brown ‘calmly’ walked away from the scene back to his home
nearby.

When arrested, he said he was so drunk he remembered
nothing of the night’s events.

Brown, of Globe Road, Mitcham, denies attempting to rape and
murder the nanny.

Mr Anthony Wilcken, prosecuting, said the teenager had been
employed as a nanny just one week before being attacked.

Brown knocked on her door just before midnight on April 6
last year, the court heard.

‘Both her employers were out and she was alone with the baby.

‘He asked to come in and started to play with the child then
chatted with her.

‘Suddenly he jumped on her and put a kitchen knife against
her neck.

‘She thought he was joking.

What happened thereafter was
certainly no joke.

‘He compelled her to accompany him on what must have been a
nightmarish walk on Mitcham Common.

‘
Forced to strip, Brown tried to rape her twice before making
her submit to a degrading sexual assault, counsel said.

‘He stabbed her in the side with the knife.

She tried to run
off but he rugby tackled her then tried to strangle her.

‘She believed she was fighting for her life.

‘
The nanny eventually managed to break free and desperately
sought safety at the only house with the lights still on.

The shocked householder found her bleeding, wearing only a
skirt and gasping from an asthma attack.

Brown was ready and waiting when police arrived at his home,
counsel said.

He denied any involvement in the sex attack, adding: ‘What
do you mean – I’m a pervert?’
Later, Brown said he had earlier drunk spirits and ‘eight to
12 pints of Skol lager’ and remembered nothing until he arrived
home.

Brown denies kidnap, attempted rape, indecent assault,
attempted murder and unlawful wounding.

The trial continues.
