‘Acid thrower’ in court

A man accused of throwing acid over an aspiring model on her 21st birthday has appeared in court. John Tomlin, 25, hurled the corrosive fluid at Resham Khan and cousin Jameel Muhktar, 37, as they sat in their car. Student Miss Khan, suffered severe facial burns following the incident on Tollgate Road, Beckton, on June 21. Mr Muhktar was also badly burned and both women were treated in hospital.
