An inquest is to be heard today (WED) into the death of Scots guard Martin Rimmer, from Clitheroe in Lancs.
The 22-year-old was found dead with head injuries at the Wellington Barracks at Birdcage Walk, London in
February this year.
Five fellow guardsman were put on police bail, pending further inquiries.
Senior army sources suggested the guardsman’s death was the tragic result of a drinking binge which went too far.
But Rimmer had been absent without leave for months at at time in the final year of his life after he said he could not stand the harassment in the
barracks.
His death led to questions about bullying and racism in the army among the mounted and foot soldiers admired by millions of tourists in London.
Rimmer was an apprentice footballer for Blackburn Rovers before he joined the Scots Guards two years ago.
His inquest is to be held at Westminster Coroner’s Court.
