Crossbow man caught at home of Prince Charles
A man was caught with a crossbow, 14 bolts and a knife in the car park at St James’s Palace claimed Prince Harry have him permission to be there, a court heard.
Andrew Marshall, 44, was caught with the weapons and a pair of latex gloves on July 20 last year, it was said.
When Marshall was questioned by officers he claimed Prince Harry had given him permission to use the car park at the official residence of Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
Julie Idowu, prosecuting, told Westminster Magistrates’ Court: ‘His car was parked in the St James’ Palace car park. It is unclear how he got access to the car park.
‘But he stated to an officer that, “Prince Harry had given me permission to park in the car park.”
‘The defendant was found in possession of a car key, and it was parked in the car park. Inside the car was found a crossbow and a knife in the driver’s side footwell.
‘There were also 14 crossbow bolts and a pair of latex gloves in the drivers’ door pocket.’
Marshall is currently in the Wells Road Psychiatric hospital in Nottingham and is yet to enter a plea.
Judge Michael Snow granted him bail on condition he remain at the hospital ahead of his next appearance at Southwark Crown Court on March 19.
He said: ‘I want to make it clear he’s not to be moved, not to leave the secure unit of the hospital without the permission of the court.’
The complex of St James’ Palace houses Clarence House, previous home of Prince William and Harry and now home to Charles and Camilla.
It is also home to York House, where the Queen’s daughter Anne, the Princess Royal and Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice of York live.
Marshall, of Sandays Close, Nottingham, is facing one charge of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and one count of possessing a knife in a public place.
