An Afghan phone plucker who grabbed mobiles from Tube passengers is set to be be spared jail because of prison overcrowding, a court heard. Rayane Bekane, 29, stole four mobile phones – one with a cardholder with ID and bank cards – from commuters at Camden Town and Euston Square Underground stations. The Afghan appeared at Southwark Crown Court today wearing a prison-issue T-shirt and a chequered cardigan around his neck, aided by an Arabic interpreter.
