RANGER: CROWN COURT FOR ALLEGED ARMS DEALER

A businessman accused of trafficking in surface-to-air missiles in breach of export controls will face a crown court judge next month.

Michael Ranger, 64, is said to have been involved in shipping the portable infrared homing missiles from North Korea to Azerbaijan, an embargoed destination.

He is charged with breaching arms export controls set down by the 2008 Export Control Order.

During a short hearing today, City of Wesminster magistrates today sent the case to Southwark Crown Court, where Ranger will appear for a plea and directions hearing on October 14.

Ranger, of (Frogs Hall) Bambers Green, Takeley, Bishops Stortford, Herts, was released on bail with a £200,000 surety and subject to a 8pm to 5am curfew.
