Six members of the same family were among eight people who appeared at the Old Bailey today (mon) charged with killing a teenager during an alleged knife and baseball bat attack.

Jay Sewell, 18, was fatally stabbed in a mass brawl in Lee, southeast London, on the evening of 11 December last year.

Daniel Grogan, 20, parents Robert, 57, and Ann, 54, siblings Peter, 22, and Francesca, 29, cousin Liam Hickey, 19, a 16-year-old boy who cannot be named and Francesca’s boyfriend Jamie Bennett, 31, are all charged with his murder.

They all also face an allegation of GBH with intent in relation to another alleged victim who was wounded.

Another man, Charlie Dudley, 25, appeared in court back in December similarly charged with murder, and is due at the Old Bailey on Wednesday.

Judge Anthony Leonard QC remanded the eight defendants into custody ahead of another hearing on 29 March.

A plea and trial preparation hearing was also fixed for 12 April, with an eight-week trial provisionally fixed at the same court on 24 June.

The Grogans, of Sibthorpe Road, Lee, southeast London, Bennett, of the same address, Hickey, of Crown Wood Way, Eltham, and the youth, from Greenwich, all remain in custody.
