Ukranian ‘stabbed his partner to death’

An alleged killer charged with murdering his former partner in her home appeared in court.

Ukrainian Yurii Muzyka, 33, allegedly broke into Halyna Hoisan’s flat in Trafalgar Road, Greenwich, and stabbed the 29-year-old to death on August 27.

Peter Ratliff, prosecuting, said: ‘The defendant is the ex-partner of the victim.

‘Their relationship had plainly been turbulent since 2023. The victim moved to various locations with their daughter to be away from the defendant.’

Muzyka allegedly broke down the door of her flat and stabbed her to death.

‘There were six knife wound injuries to the front of her chest and other knife injuries’, said Mr Ratliff.

Police officers arrived to find Muzyka with a self-inflicted injury and he was taken to hospital.

He was charged with murdering Ms Hoisan, known as Lina, on 5 September

Muzyka, of New Malden, appeared at the Old Bailey today (tues) wearing a dark grey top, aided by a Ukrainian interpreter.

He was remanded in custody ahead of a plea and trial preparation hearing on 25 November whilt his trial was fixed for May 11 next year.

Judge Sarah Munro, KC, told Muzyka: ‘If you are to plead not guilty to these charges you must prepare a defence statement. In it you must set out all the details that you seek to rely upon in defending yourself against these allegations.

‘If you leave out an important detail that could count against you at your trial because the jury may conclude that you have made up that detail.’
