WASS: DOHERTY PAL TOKED ON THE CRACK PIPE
A friend of junkie rocker Pete Doherty was caught on video smoking a crack pipe with the singer by a film maker making a documentary about the Babyshambles star, a court heard.
Alan Wass, 29, can be seen smoking the class A drug from an adapted brandy bottle together with Doherty, 32, and friend Peter Wolfe, Snaresbrook Crown Court was told.
The video was made by heiress Robyn Whitehead, 27, the granddaughter of the late Teddy Goldsmith, as part of a documentary about the musician and ex-boyfriend of Kate Moss.
Jurors heard how Doherty and Wolfe, 42, were both handed jail sentences earlier this year after pleading guilty to drugs offences in relation to Miss Whitehead’s film.
Alison Morgan, prosecuting, said: ‘On 24 January last year, police officers attended flat two, Landmark Hights, Hackney.
‘They searched the address and they recovered footage that had been recorded by a film maker called Robyn Whitehead.
‘She had filmed the footage in the few days before it was seized by police.
‘Robyn Whitehead was at that time making a documentary about the musician Pete Doherty.
‘He is shown on the footage you will see, along with another man, Peter Wolfe, the defendant Alan Wass and Robyn Whitehead.
‘The prosecution case is footage taken on 23 January shows the defendant consuming crack cocaine, smoking it from a small adapted bottle, to be used as what is commonly known as a crack pipe.’
The film showed Wass smoking from the pipe along with Doherty and others, the jury was told.
The adapted bottle was found on the bedroom floor of the flat.
It was was taken by police, and tests on it later revealed traces of cocaine.
‘Mr Wolfe and Mr Doherty have already been before the courts and have pleaded guilty to possession of crack cocaine in the same manner it is alleged against Mr Wass, based on the footage in the flat on that particular occasion,’ said Miss Morgan.
She told jurors: ‘We suggest that this is a simple case and you will have no difficulty in finding he was smoking crack cocaine on that day.’
Wass was later arrested after agreeing to attend at appointment at a police station in March, and made no comment in interview.
Wass, of Bramley Road, north Kensington, denies possession of crack cocaine on January 23 2010.
Doherty, of Durley, Wiltshire, was jailed for six months in May after admitting one count of possession of cocaine.
Wolfe, of Heath Road, Maidstone, Kent, was jailed for 12 months after pleading guilty to two counts of cocaine possession and one count of supplying the drug.
The trial continues.
