A cheeky thief was bowled out by ace cricketer Geoff Boycott
when he swiped his expensive golf clubs from an inter-City train.

And today (tues) the crook was out for a duck when a judge jailed
him for two years.

Timeshare salesman Thomas Kerr’s protests that he intended
playing by the rules in future cut no ice with the court.

Snaresbrook Crown Court heard how Kerr swiped the former England
Test batsman’s thousand pound set of clubs from a luggage rack while
the train was at King’s Cross station on March 2 this year, the court
was told.

But seconds later Geoffrey, who had been sitting in a first
class compartment ‘returned and challenged him’ said Mr John Butcher,
prosecuting.

Kerr tried to flee with Boycott closing, but got collared at
the boundary – ticket barrier – by the cricket legend.

Kerr, 21, of River Way, Loughton, Essex, pleaded guilty to theft.

He also admitted burglary of nearly pnds stlg 10,000 worth of
computer equipment from a firm in Edinburgh Way, Harlow, Essex, on
March 22 this year.

Police officers had seized the valuable haul from his home, then
in Station Road, Old Harlow, two days after the break-in.

Reformed drug addict and former alcoholic Kerr – who had taken
up a pnds stlg 500 a week selling job with a holiday ownership company
whilst on bail – also admitted breaching a three year probation
order imposed last year for supplying drugs.

After hearing smartly dressed Kerr give evidence during the
hearing to say he had ‘got on top of his life’ since getting a job
Judge Andrew Brooks jailed him for 18 months for the ‘extremely
prevalent offence’ of burglary.

But he imposed a further consecutive term of six months for
stealing the golf clubs.

He also got a concurrent term of six months
for breaching the probation order.

Baby faced Kerr looked visibly dismayed as he was led away to
the cells.

Geoff Boycott was not in court.
