A man who lured an insurance salesman with a bogus business
deal then subjected him to a terrifying two hour torture ordeal
has been jailed for 10 years.
The ‘office’ boasted of by Atul Patel, 27, proved to be the
laundry room of his father’s bed and breakfast hotel.
And instead of sealing a lucrative deal, victim Mr Philip
Nelson, 44, was bound and handcuffed then stabbed 20 times with
a knife before being threatened with castration.
Judge John Rogers told Patel, of Sarsen Avenue, Hounslow,
that the crime was too serious for anything but a substantial
custodial sentence.
The Old Bailey was told Mr Nelson, of Longsides Lane,
Harwood, Bolton, has been unable to return to his pnds stlng
50,000 a year job since the terrifying April 19 ordeal this year.
He becomes extremely nervous when he has to travel anywhere,
the judge was told.
The fictional deal which lured Mr Nelson to London was
Patel’s plan for a pnds stlng 1.
25 million remortgage of a
nursing home he claimed to have.
At Patel’s father’s hotel in Freeland Road, Ealing, west
London, he locked Mr Nelson in the laundry and produced a flick
knife, which he held at his terrified victim’s throat.
The torture ordeal which followed included both the physical
pain of almost two dozen knife wounds and the mental torture of
threats to cut off Mr Nelson’s ears, eyes and genitals.
Patel boasted that he had murdered twice before.
Mr Nelson
was petrified.
He finally managed to escape through a window and yelled for
help from the neighbours.
When police arrived, he was still cowering in the garden,
shaking uncontrollably and took several minutes before being
convinced he was safe.
The ordeal continued when a series of threatening phone calls
were made from a hotel in Isleworth which Patel, who was on
bail, helped run with his father.
Patel had admitted false imprisonment.
