Dr Scott-Smith later revealed that kissing his pat
Dr Scott-Smith later revealed that kissing his patient was the worst thing he had ever done.
Giving evidence he fully admitted the incident but claimed it was a mutual kiss and it only lasted up to four seconds.
And he added that he immediately regretted it and knew it would cause him problems.
Dr Scott-Smith told the committee: ‘It was quite clearly her kissing me.
‘
‘When I asked her if she felt as though she wanted to she said she had felt like that at the end of our last consultation.
‘Like an idiot – I regret this – I said do you want the kiss now and she said yes.
‘We were sitting on a small sofa and were no more than a couple of feet apart.
‘We both leaned sideways to eachother and kissed.
We both approached eachother lips to lips.
‘There was no question of a cheek from either party.
‘We engaged in what you know as a French kiss for three to four seconds.
‘
Asked how he felt afterwards the doctor said: ‘I could not believe I had actually done it and I thought: ‘S–t, I should not have done that.
‘
‘I should not have gone that far.
There was a silence and she leant her head on my shoulder and I put my arm around her.
‘She said something like: ‘This complicates matters’ and I agreed.
‘I gave her a peck on the cheek when I left at the front door.
‘
Dr Scott-Smith said his marriage was on the rocks following the incident, but he and his wife have since managed to patch things up.
He added: ‘The ramifications have been beyond my wildest dreams in terms of the damage it has caused.
‘It was the worst day and decision of my life.
‘
The hearing continues.
